Lowell School Will Celebrate!
World Down Syndrome Day!

Wednesday March 21st is World Down Syndrome Day

Join Ms. Seward’s class and the Lowell School Community in having our very
own
CRAZY SOCK DAY!
We hope you can participate in wearing some crazy socks to celebrate a
world which honors people with Down syndrome, their friends and families!
**************************************************************
What Is World Down syndrome Day?
The purpose of WDSD is to educate the world on what Down syndrome is and how individuals
with Down syndrome need to be valued, accepted and included in their communities.

Why March 21st?
To signify the three copies of the 21st chromosome which causes Down syndrome. The third
month on the 21st day.

How Are We Celebrating?
By wearing mismatched socks! The colors of Down syndrome are blue and yellow, you can
wear these colored socks or clothes, paint your nails, place blue and yellow lights around your
house! Be creative.
All around Boston, places will light up the night sky with the colors of Down syndrome -- blue
and yellow: Zakim Bridge in Boston, Gillette Stadium Lighthouse in Foxboro, Burns Bridge in
Worcester, and Basketball Hall of Fame in Springfield
