30-second BookTalks
Can you sell a reader on a book in 30 seconds or less? Fifth graders wrote booktalks for their favorite books to convince new readers to try them out. Book Talks run 30 seconds and include the book, a hook and a quick look. Screencasting these talks is about to begin so stay tuned for the finished products...

Author Research

Third grade continues exploring Google Slides and learning the basics of conducting research on a topic. Students learned how to search the Infobits periodicals database, identify an article containing information they need to know about their author and identify the information that answers questions about their author. Highlighting and creating notes in the database and including a proper citation round out the new skills. Students will use this information to create their own Google Slides deck about their author.

Tall Tales

Kindergarten students learned the meaning of exaggeration in our short study of Tall Tales. From Paul Bunyan and Johnny Appleseed to the more modern tale of Thunder Rose students found examples of exaggeration and heroism.

Using a Computer

PreK is practicing mouse and computer skills learning to open and close windows and to drag and drop images.

States and Regions Extravaganza Continues

Fourth Grade continues to learn to use informational texts to locate facts and other useful information on their assigned states. Additionally, they learned to read a map for information and see that different types of maps provide different types of information.

Poetry

Second graders explored different types of poetry including acrostic, shape, haiku and rhyming poems. Using a computer app, personal poems were created in various shapes.

Mapping

First grade explored maps reading about how maps are created and the many different ways maps are useful. Students mapped the library as well as drawing and labeling a map of a room in their homes.
