Overview

Winter started for all students with the Hour of Code. Pk-5 practiced block coding and problem solving skills with a variety of different programs such as Scratch or Kodable. Upper grades started learning research skills and online safety, while the lower grades started keyboarding and participated in genre exploration and classic stories.

World Book Online

Third and Fifth grade learned to access the World Book Encyclopedia Online searching for article, picture and videos related to topics they are researching. Fifth grade learned to import and export citations from the WBO into EasyBib, as well as the rudiments of Boolean searching.

Keyboarding

First and second grade started practicing their keyboarding and home row skills and fifth grade began using Keyboarding Without Tears.

Digital Citizenship

Fourth Grade, learning about online safety and digital etiquette, discussed how your online behavior impacts you, your family and friends, and your community.

Story Sequencing

PreK, Kindergarten and first grade did some story sequencing and retelling visiting with favorite fairy tales and the author Jan Brett.

Visual Literacy

Third grade spent several weeks studying the author/ illustrator Jon Klassen and examining how picture text work together to tell a story.

Other Bits...

Several grade levels built mini computers out of paper assembling all the internal and external parts before installing a keyboard and screen.
Second grade mastered finding books in the library by call number. Students were able to search the catalog for a book on a particular topic, find the call number and locate it on the shelf.
